Welcome to Project Varia! Stalfos has had the crazy, yet, fun idea of building the Power Suit from the Metroid Series. Namely Metroid Prime, since it has the highest detail for the Power Suit. I'm going to log every little detail of this project. Every little fuck-up, every good point and every kickass outcome. Let's get busy. This project will consist of many months of hard work and is expected to be completed in June 2003 for Anime Expo 2003.
Project: Build the Varia Suit from Metroid Prime to exact detail.
Supplies:
Head - Motorcycle Helmet, Green Visor
Body - Hockey Chest Pads
Arm Cannon - PVC Pipe
Left Hand - Some sort of hard glove (I'll update this once I decide what kind of glove to use)
Legs - I think I am going to buy hockey pants or football pants. I haven't decided.
Feet & Shins - Black-soled boots with the shinguards supporting the outer shell on the leg
Initial Shell - Paper Mache (Elmer's Glue & Water)
Final Shell - Fiberglass Cloth
Coloring - Paint with a polyurethane seal
Friday, November 29th, 2002 - I went to the art store and bought some wire frame, Elmer's Glue and a Fiberglass kit
Monday, December 2nd, 2002 - I went to Gart Sports in Vail. Turns out they had hockey pads on sale for $29.99 and they fit perfectly.
Thursday, December 5th, 2002 - Started the paper mache of the chest area. I measured and cut cardboard to to the depth and angle to match that of the suit. This piece has 3 layers of mache and I am letting it dry overnight. Since this is my first try at the chest point and it turned out this well I am happy. More to come tomorrow night!
Sunday, January 19th, 2003 - For the time being Project Varia has been postponed due to funding issues from my trip to China. That's where all my money is going so I am putting this project on hold until the 2nd half of the year. Sorry to everyone who was expecting to see this. You'll just have to wait.
